Toe fungus, or onychomycosis, occurs from a fungal infection of the toenail. This may be acquired through direct contact with an infected host or indirect contact with infected exfoliated skin or hair. Treatment is difficult because the infection is embedded deep within the nail itself. Also, certain individuals have a predilection for nail fungus while others can never get this. This is a function of the immune system.
Although oral medications may be effective, there are risks associated with their utilization such as liver damage, and these are not present with our proposed treatment plan.
Initially grind the nail down using an emery board to allow the medications to reach the deeper layers of the nail more effectively. Then apply Tea Tree Oil, which will soften the nail, to the affected toenail. There may also be a fungicidal effect of the Tea Tree Oil. This is necessary in order to allow the Iodine to reach the fungus within the nail. In the evenings apply the Colorless Iodine, which will kill the fungus. Continue this process every day until the fungus is completely gone, which may take a year or more.
